Solitaire Mahjong Classic commits to one look and does it properly: the ivory and green theme, the Shanghai Solitaire board shape that most players picture when they think of the genre, and polished tile art with a quiet soundtrack behind it. SOFTGAMES released this build in 2022 and the presentation is the selling point rather than any twist on the rules.

The rules themselves are the strict originals. A tile is open when nothing covers it and at least one side is free, and open tiles are removed in identical pairs until the board is bare. The Shanghai arrangement is dense in the middle and tapered at the ends, which makes the opening moves matter — clearing the wings early leaves the central ridge with nothing to lean on.

What genuinely distinguishes this version is the generosity of its tools. Hints and undo are unlimited, and a shuffle is available on top of them. That removes the usual scarcity calculation entirely: you can step back a bad match without penalty and ask for a pointer whenever the ridge stops making sense, which makes this a good build for learning how the classic layout actually comes apart.

Full screen is worth turning on for the art, since the polished tile faces and the ivory palette lose their definition at the default 800 by 600. The game plays on desktop and mobile alike, and the soundtrack carries over to both.

1. Identify the open tiles — nothing covering them and at least one free side.
2. Match two identical open tiles to remove the pair from the board.
3. Work the tapered wings of the Shanghai arrangement before attacking the dense centre.
4. Undo a match freely if it turns out to have blocked something you needed.
5. Take a hint whenever the board stalls, and shuffle if no legal pair remains.
