144 Mahjong is a catalogue of browser tile games that has been kept since 2019. The name is the number of tiles in a standard set — the same 144 pieces every board on this site is drawn from, whether it stacks them into a turtle or lays them flat in a grid.
We do not develop these games. Independent studios and publishers do, and they are named on every page where the name is known. What this site does is decide which boards deserve a page, keep them playable at full size, describe honestly what each one is, and remove the ones that stop working.
Selection is not automated. A board earns a page if it plays cleanly on a desktop, reads at a glance, and is not a near-copy of something already here. That last rule is why the catalogue is smaller than it could be: fifty renamed versions of one layout would be a worse site than one version of fifty layouts.
Some of what is here exists nowhere else. The Flash shelf holds titles from studios that closed years ago, kept running through an open-source emulator rather than left to disappear when browsers dropped the plug-in.
The site is paid for by advertising placed around the games, never over them. If an advert ever covers a board you are playing, that is a fault worth reporting.
