Snack Mahjong

Snack Mahjong is the one field in this group with obstacles on it. Between the vegetables, fruit and sweets sit wooden crates and steel blocks, and the two behave differently: a crate breaks when you clear a piece next to it, while steel cannot be destroyed at all and only shifts position. The same group of boards includes the Chain grid.

That turns a connect board into something closer to a clearing puzzle. Two matching snacks link only when nothing stands between them, so the order in which you dismantle the crates decides whether the far half of the field is reachable at all. Special blocks add another layer, sliding pieces around the field or pushing them along a straight line, which can open the route you needed or close one you were saving. Directly alongside it sits the Jolly Jong 2 board.

There is no clock, so the whole thing is a planning exercise rather than a race, which is unusual for a connect board and makes the steel blocks a puzzle instead of an annoyance. Hints and a shuffle are available. The 1280 by 720 field is dense enough that full screen is the sensible view, and bestphysics supports mouse and touch equally. 1. Connect two identical snack pieces along a clear route, since nothing may stand between them.
2. Clear pieces adjacent to a wooden crate to break it and open the lane behind.
3. Route around the steel blocks, which shift position but never disappear.
4. Use the special blocks that move pieces around or along a line to reposition an unreachable pair.
5. Empty the whole field to finish, at whatever pace suits you.

• Crates first, always — every wooden box you break widens the routes for everything behind it.
• Map the steel before you start — permanent blocks decide which halves of the field can ever see each other.
• Special blocks cut both ways — a slide that rescues one pair often buries the pair you were keeping in reserve.
• Take the untimed pace — with no clock, study the whole field before the first click rather than after the tenth.
• Full screen for the obstacles — crates and steel read alike at window size, and confusing them wastes moves.
