Mahjong Jong

Traditional faces of bamboos, circles, characters and seasons sit on the board in Mahjong Jong, in the Chinese styling Agame gave it. It is a quieter board than the themed ones around it, with no cartoon animals or seasonal props.

The rule is the classic one: open pairs of identical tiles, clicked in turn, leave the board. A tile counts as open when nothing blocks it, and each removal exposes what was underneath. Everything you can reach is on the surface. The Monkey board builds the layers into another arrangement.

Each level carries a time limit, which is what separates this from the untimed boards in the same style. Clearing every pair before the countdown ends is the whole requirement, so speed matters more than deliberation. For one more pile of the same kind, see the Solitaire board.

Hints and a shuffle are available when the open tiles no longer pair. The 800-by-500 board is mouse-driven, and full screen is worth switching on: the traditional suits are drawn with fine strokes, and bamboo tiles can differ from one another by a single line at that size. Only tiles with an open side move in Tiki Mahjong too.

1. Look for two identical tiles that are open on the board.
2. Click each one to remove the pair.
3. Take upper tiles early so the ones beneath become open.
4. Use a hint or a shuffle when the open tiles stop matching.
5. Clear the level within its time limit.

• Learn the bamboo suit — the numbered bamboo tiles in Mahjong Jong are the ones that cost you a mis-click.
• Open the stack, not the rim — rim tiles will still be there in thirty seconds, but buried ones may never become reachable.
• Watch the countdown — every level here has one, so hesitation is expensive.
• Shuffle rather than search — when the open tiles do not pair, no amount of looking will change that.
• Use full screen — the traditional suits rely on thin printed detail that an 800-by-500 window flattens.
