Mahjong Dark Dimensions

Arkadium built Mahjong Dark Dimensions in 2019 as the punishing edition of its cube games, and the punishment is the clock: two minutes on the board, not two minutes per pair. The tiles are cuboids stacked into a solid block that turns on its axis, and a pair only lifts when neither tile is buried and one of its side edges is exposed.

Time Bonus Tiles are the whole economy here. They are the single way to keep the clock running, so a player who clears tidy symmetrical pairs and ignores the bonus faces will watch the timer end with most of the block still standing. The habit that works is to sweep for bonus faces on every rotation and take them the moment they become legal, even when a plainer pair sits closer to the cursor. Rotation is the other half. Drag the block around and faces that looked blank from the front turn out to carry the twin you needed; a quarter turn is often cheaper than hunting the visible side for a fourth time. Speed also feeds the score, since quick consecutive matches build combos rather than simply emptying the board. Types of Mahjong covers where those rules come from.

The stage runs at 640 by 480, small for a block you are meant to read at a glance, so the full screen toggle is close to mandatory on a desktop monitor. Touch input works as well, and the same block rotates under a finger on a tablet.

Strip the cube before the two minutes expire and the run counts; miss it and the score stops where the clock did. Another cube of the same family is Mahjong Connect 3D.

1. Look for cuboid tiles that carry nothing on top and have a free left or right edge, because those are the only ones in play.
2. Click one tile, then its twin, and the pair drops out of the block.
3. Drag the cube to spin it and read the faces that were hidden behind the front wall.
4. Grab every Time Bonus Tile you can reach, because matching them is what keeps the two-minute clock alive.
5. Chain matches quickly to build combo points, and empty the block before the timer stops.

• Bonus faces first — every other pair is worth points, but only a Time Bonus Tile buys you more seconds on the board.
• Peel the outer shell — the block is layered, and the tiles you want are usually one rotation and one removal away.
• Turn before you hunt — a quarter spin reveals a whole hidden face faster than re-reading the one in front of you.
• Match in bursts — consecutive quick pairs score higher than the same pairs taken one at a time.
• Open it in full screen — at 640 by 480 the cuboid faces are small, and misreading one costs seconds you cannot spare.
