Safari Story Mahjong

SOFTGAMES gives Safari Story Mahjong more scaffolding than most tile games carry. Levels sit on a saga map rather than in a plain list, each board runs against a clock, and a Gift Box milestone lands every eight levels, so progress is marked out in blocks rather than trickling. The Best New list gathers the boards that share this heading.

Five boosters are named outright: Hint, Shuffle, Undo, Torch and Freeze. That spread covers the three ways a timed board goes wrong — nothing visible, nothing legal, and nothing left on the clock — and Undo in particular is rarer than the other four. Matching itself stays conventional: free pairs, taken from a stack of animal, plant and fruit tiles. Pairs leave the stack the same way in African Dream.

The 800 by 600 frame holds both the map and the stack comfortably, and the build takes taps as well as clicks. Mahjong Tour piles the tiles into a different silhouette.

1. Pick the next level on the saga map and start the board.
2. Match free pairs of safari tiles — animals, plants and fruit — before the timer expires.
3. Spend a booster when the board stalls: Hint to find a pair, Shuffle to redeal, Undo to take back a mistake, Torch or Freeze when the clock is the problem.
4. Clear the level, then push on toward the Gift Box that arrives at every eighth stage.

• Count to the Gift Box — milestones land every eight levels, so a run of seven is worth finishing.
• Hold Freeze for the crunch — stopping the clock is worth most on a board you nearly cleared, not on one you have just opened.
• Undo is a real second chance — few tile games offer it, and taking back a bad pair beats spending a Shuffle.
• Learn the safari set — fruits and plants read alike at a glance, and misreading them is what burns the timer.
