Ultimate Connect 4

The objective is four tiles of your colour on one line, counted vertically, horizontally or diagonally, and TrendyGames adds an option the plastic set never had — you choose how many rows and columns the grid holds. Widening it slows the game and opens more diagonal threats; narrowing it turns a match into a knife fight over two or three columns. The feed tags it co-op and school, which fits a game meant to be played across a desk. From the same group, there is also the A2Z Connect layout.

Anyone who has played this before will know the trap that decides most matches: blocking an opponent’s obvious three while missing the second threat they have quietly built underneath. 1. Set the number of rows and columns you want on the grid.
2. Take turns placing a tile in your colour.
3. Build towards four on one line, vertical, horizontal or diagonal.
4. Block the opposing line while your own threat is still forming.

• Own the centre columns — on any Ultimate Connect 4 grid the middle files feed the most lines at once.
• Resize deliberately — extra columns create room for diagonals, while a narrow grid makes every placement forcing.
• Count both diagonals — the objective covers vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines, and the slanted four is the one players miss.
• Look one move past the block — stopping a visible three is worthless if it hands your opponent a second open line.
