Popcorn, cakes and strawberries carry the suits on Foody Triple Mahjong, and the board clears in sets of three. The selection rule is strict: a tile needs two adjacent sides open before it will answer a click, so a cake wedged between neighbours is dead weight until one of them goes. From the same group, there is also the Butterfly Kyodai board.

Levels come in a long run, each with a clock on it. That combination — many boards, a timer on every one — makes the food tiles a pattern-recognition drill more than a puzzle: three identical strawberries can sit on three different layers, and the eye has to hold all three while the countdown moves. Candy Cane belongs to the same easy-going list.

Hints and shuffles are on hand when the visible faces stop forming trios, and the 2021 build reads a mouse click or a touchscreen tap. The interface is bright and busy, which is exactly why full screen matters here — a cupcake and a muffin at window size are the same yellow blob, and at full width they are not. School Mahjong Deluxe lays the same tiles out in another silhouette.

1. Scan the food board for three tiles showing the same treat — three cakes, three strawberries.
2. Confirm that each tile has at least two adjacent sides free.
3. Select the three in turn to clear the set and reveal the tiles under them.
4. Use a hint or a shuffle if the open faces stop forming trios.
5. Empty the food board before the timer expires to move on to the next level.

• Hold three positions at once — Foody Triple Mahjong rarely puts a whole trio on one layer.
• Free the corners — a tile with only one open side cannot be picked, however plainly you can see it.
• Shuffle early — on Foody Triple Mahjong a redeal is cheaper than watching the clock run out.
• Strip the top — every upper tile removed hands you two more candidates below.
• Play full screen — the pastry icons are close in colour and separate better on a big board.
