Discover Egypt Mahjong

Discover Egypt Mahjong alternates two puzzles. First you clear a layout of hieroglyph tiles; then the game hands you a pair of near-identical scenes and asks you to find every difference between them before the level counts as done.

Ten locations carry the run, each modelled on a famous Egyptian landmark, and each with its own clock. The tile half follows the ordinary rule: a tile lifts only when it is uncovered and has a side free. The Turtle pile uses the matching rule on a differently drawn set.

The spot-the-difference half is where most runs stall. The scenes are dense and the differences are small, so the skimming habit that serves you well on the hieroglyphs works against you here. Taking one quadrant at a time beats sweeping the whole picture. The same free-tile rule governs Tiles Matching.

Hints and a shuffle cover a jammed layout. This is an older Flash-era title built for a desktop browser, and full screen is close to essential once the hidden-object scenes arrive. The China Tower pile piles the tiles into a different silhouette.

1. Pair up free tiles carrying matching Egyptian hieroglyphs.
2. A tile counts as free when nothing covers it and one side is open.
3. Clear the layout to unlock that location's hidden-object scene.
4. Spot every difference between the two pictures to move on.
5. Keep moving; each of the ten levels is timed.

• Take the top layer down early — buried hieroglyphs in Discover Egypt Mahjong all look alike until they are exposed.
• Split the picture into quarters — the difference hunt goes faster by sector than by scanning a whole scene.
• Keep a hint back — the later Egyptian locations are stingier with time than the first few.
• Shuffle rather than stall — a layout with no legal pair left will not solve itself while the clock runs.
• Use full screen — small differences between two crowded scenes are unreadable in a shrunken frame.
