Mahjong Colors
Over a hundred timed layouts played on a fully recoloured tile set.

Colour does most of the work in Mahjong Colors. The set is redrawn in saturated blues, reds and greens rather than the usual bone and ink, which makes the suits quicker to read but also easier to confuse when two shades sit side by side.
A tile is available when at least two adjacent sides of it are open, which is a stricter test than most layouts apply. The seasons — cloud, sun, frost and rainbow — pair with each other freely, and the four coloured dragons in red, yellow, green and blue do the same, so those eight faces are the safety valve on a jammed board. The same free-tile rule governs the Duels pile.
More than a hundred levels are included and every one of them runs against a strict clock. MarketJS built the 2020 release in HTML5 at a wide native size, and it takes a phone screen as readily as a desktop monitor. The same group of boards includes Mahjong Dark Dimensions.
Full screen is the sensible default on the later boards, where the timer leaves no room for hunting a tile you simply could not see. Hints and a shuffle are available, though leaning on either eats into the score you finish with. A second stacked layout here is the Monster Triple board.

How to Play
- Look for two identical tiles that each have at least two adjacent sides clear.
- Click them in turn to take the pair off the stack.
- Treat cloud, sun, frost and rainbow as one interchangeable group.
- Do the same with the red, yellow, green and blue dragons.
- Empty the layout before the level clock expires.
Tips & Tricks
- Check the colour before you click — the recoloured Mahjong Colors set makes similar faces look alike at a glance.
- Spend the wildcards late — seasons and coloured dragons match anything in their group, so keep them for a board with nothing else left.
- Take the top storey down first — buried tiles cannot be reached, and the clock does not pause while you look.
- Hints cost score — a level cleared unaided is worth more than one cleared quickly with three.
- Switch to full screen — the colour differences hold up much better than in a shrunken frame.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Mahjong Colors different from a standard tile set?
The whole set is recoloured, so you match by colour and symbol together rather than by symbol alone.
When is a tile free in Mahjong Colors?
When at least two of its adjacent sides are open; anything more hemmed in than that cannot be lifted.
How many levels does Mahjong Colors have?
More than a hundred, and each is played against a strict time limit.
Does Mahjong Colors run in full screen?
Yes, and the wider canvas is a real help once the timer tightens.
Which tiles in Mahjong Colors match outside their own face?
The cloud, sun, frost and rainbow seasons pair with one another, and the red, yellow, green and blue dragons do the same.
