Arkadium’s Mahjongg Dimensions Blue

Mahjongg Dimensions Blue is the cube version Arkadium built first, and the one later rotating boards have been imitating since. The playing piece is not a flat tile but a cube, stacked into a solid that you turn as you play.

Clearing works on unblocked cubes only: click a matching pair whose faces are showing and nothing is pressing them from above or the side, and they go. Turning the stack is half the game, because the cube that looks buried from the front is frequently open from the back. Arkadium keeps the rule set small enough to learn in a minute and asks for speed instead — the pace of turn, spot, tap is what separates a good run from an ordinary one. The same rotation is at the centre of the Power Connect Halloween board.

The build occupies a compact 640 by 480 frame, which suits the stack rather than fighting it: the cubes stay large relative to the window, and that matters when you are turning quickly and clicking on instinct rather than deliberating over each face. Tap 3D Blocks turns a block instead of clearing a flat board.

1. Spin the stack with a drag to see which cube faces are actually exposed.
2. Find two unblocked cubes carrying the same symbol, unblocked meaning nothing is sitting on them or pinning them in.
3. Click one, then the other, and the pair is removed from the solid.
4. Keep turning and tapping until the stack is gone, quickly enough to keep the run moving.

• Rotate on a rhythm — in Dimensions Blue a quarter turn every few matches shows more pairs than staring at one face does.
• Peel the top of the solid — a cube with another resting on it is blocked however clearly you can see its symbol.
• Trust the first read — Arkadium built this cube board around speed, and hesitation costs more than the odd mis-click.
• Sit close to the small frame — 640 by 480 keeps the cubes crisp, but the symbols are compact and reward a proper look.
