Mahjong Animal drops the stacked pyramid entirely: the tiles lie in a single flat grid, and a pair clears only when a path can be traced between the two. It is a Connect board, not a solitaire one.
The instruction that matters here is proximity — matching animal tiles standing close to each other are the ones you can actually link, since the connecting line has to find its way between them. Boards of this kind usually cap how many turns that line may take, so two identical faces at opposite corners of a crowded grid are rarely a legal move. The pictures are bright animal drawings rather than suit markings, which makes recognition immediate even when the grid is full. Pairs leave the stack the same way in the Microsoft board.
Every level carries its own clock, and the timer is the real opponent. Emptying the grid is seldom the hard part; emptying it before the bar runs out is, and a hint spent to unstick yourself trims what the level pays. A neighbour from the same shelf is the Link grid.
This one is built for a desktop browser and a mouse. Full screen helps more than you would expect, because a packed grid of small animal faces makes two similar creatures easy to confuse. Halloween Deluxe 1 sits on the same shelf of gentler boards.

How to Play
- Scan the grid for two identical animal tiles standing near one another.
- Click one and then the other to draw the connecting line and clear both.
- Work outward from the middle, where the grid is tightest and the paths are shortest.
- Finish every pair on the level before the timer empties.
Tips & Tricks
- Open the centre first — clearing the middle of the grid gives every later line room to travel.
- Chase near neighbours — two animals side by side will link when the same pair across the board will not.
- Treat hints as a cost — leaning on them trims the score the level would otherwise pay.
- Scale the board up — in full screen the animal drawings separate, and two similar faces stop blurring into one.
- Keep a mouse to hand — Mahjong Animal is a desktop build, with no tap-friendly version to fall back on.
