Mahjong Tower

A standing tile structure rather than a flat table: dismantle it from the outside in, turning it whenever the visible walls run dry.

Mahjong Tower

Mahjong Tower gives up the flat table for a standing structure: tiles are stacked into a tower that you take apart from the outside in, pair by pair. The silhouette is the point, because every removal changes the shape of the thing you are dismantling, and a tower that looked solid on one side is often hollow on the other.

Only free tiles come off. A piece has to be uncovered and reachable, so the top and the outer walls are your working surface until enough has been stripped for the interior to open. Rotating the structure is not optional on the denser layouts: matches sit on the far wall constantly, and a player who never turns the tower runs out of legal pairs long before the tiles run out. Mahjongg Game builds the layers into another arrangement.

A clock runs, and hints and shuffles are available when the visible faces stop offering anything. The shuffle is the more expensive of the two, since a redealt tower has to be re-read from scratch. Deluxe Plus sits beside this one among the layered boards.

This is an older build, dating to 2007, and it is designed for a mouse and a full screen desktop view rather than a small window. The Jong board uses the matching rule on a differently drawn set.

Mouse — click one free tile, then its twin.

How to Play

  1. Study the tower from all sides before removing anything, because the first useful pair is often on the back wall.
  2. Identify free tiles: uncovered on top, with an open edge.
  3. Click two identical free tiles to take them off the structure.
  4. Turn the tower as it thins so newly exposed faces come into view.
  5. Call a hint when the surface reads blank, and shuffle only as a last resort.

Tips & Tricks

  • Attack the dense side — a heavily packed wall hides more pairs, and thinning it is what frees the interior.
  • Turn before you despair — the tower has four faces and a top, and most apparent dead ends are just an unturned view.
  • Ration the hints — they solve the immediate problem but do nothing for the structure underneath.
  • Shuffle last — a redeal rebuilds your mental map of the tower along with the tiles.
  • Use full screen — a tall structure in a small window loses the depth cues that tell you which tile sits in front.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Mahjong Tower different from a flat layout?

The tiles are built upward into a standing structure, so depth decides which pieces are reachable, not just position on a table.

Can the structure be rotated in Mahjong Tower?

Yes, and it needs to be. Matches routinely sit on a wall you cannot see from the default angle.

Is Mahjong Tower timed?

A clock runs while you dismantle the tower, so stalling on a difficult wall costs you.

Are hints and shuffles available in Mahjong Tower?

Both are. The hint marks one legal pair; the shuffle redeals what is left when the tower has no moves.

Does Mahjong Tower open in full screen?

It does, and on a tall structure the extra height makes it much easier to judge which tile is in front of which.
