Mahjong

RedFoc calls this a pyramid game, and the word is doing real work. A pyramid stack means the tiles you want are almost always underneath the ones you can reach, so the board is dismantled from the peak outwards rather than picked at wherever a match happens to catch the eye. The solitaire rules page goes through it slowly for a first-time player.

Pairs have to be identical and, in RedFoc’s phrasing, approved — free by the layout’s own rules — and taking a pair opens whatever was lying below it. The stated aim is to spend all the tiles, so every symbol is accounted for and nothing is left over at the end. The King pile lays the same tiles out in another silhouette.

The build renders at 1280 by 720, wide enough that a broad pyramid base stays fully visible without the outer columns being cropped. For one more pile of the same kind, see the Pet Quest board.

Controls

Mouse or touchscreen.

How to Play

  1. Start at the top of the pyramid, where tiles are unobstructed.
  2. Find two identical tiles that the layout has opened for play.
  3. Pair them to remove both and expose the tiles below.
  4. Keep working down the stack until every tile has been spent.

Tips & Tricks

  • Come down from the peak — the pyramid gives up its lower tiers only after the tiles resting on them go.
  • Match the buried copy — with several of a symbol available, prefer the one nearer the middle of the stack.
  • Do not strand a symbol — the aim is to spend every tile, and two survivors on opposite sides of a wall finish the board early.
  • Use the width — at 1280 by 720 the base of the pyramid sits fully on screen, so there is no reason to play in a cropped window.
