DinoMatch: Mahjong Pairs

Yellow Bird Games pays you in stars for the long links, and in chests once the stars add up.

Yellow Bird Games released DinoMatch in 2022 with a scoring idea that inverts the usual advice. Connecting pairs that sit far apart earns more stars than connecting neighbours, so the safe habit of clearing whatever is nearest actively costs you reward.

Stars are not decoration. Reach a certain number and a chest is handed over, which is the run’s progression currency, and over time new tile artwork unlocks while the level configurations grow more complicated. A board played purely for survival and a board played for stars therefore look quite different, even though both end with an empty field. The pressure comes from the timer: the whole field has to be cleared before it expires, and hunting distant pairs eats seconds that a nearby pair would have saved. Judging when to bank an easy match and when to reach across the board is the actual skill here, and it shifts as the clock drains. The Winter Tiles grid is two clicks away in the same section.

The canvas is portrait at 580 by 910, built with phones in mind, and it plays comfortably under a thumb. On a monitor, full screen is what stops the tall field from sitting as a narrow strip in the middle of the display. Butterfly Match Mastery is filed under the same heading here.

How to Play

Start a level and read the whole field before your first link.
Match identical dinosaur tiles by connecting them across the field.
Favour distant pairs while time allows, because they award more stars.
Clear the entire field before the timer expires.
Collect stars until they add up to a chest, then take on the next configuration.

Tips & Tricks

Reach far early — distant links pay the most stars, and the start of a level is when you can afford the seconds they cost.
Bank the near pairs late — once the clock is short, an obvious neighbour is worth more than a star you may not finish collecting.
Play for the chest — stars accumulate towards a reward, so a cleared level with few stars is only half a result.
Expect the layouts to shift — configurations grow more complicated as new tile art unlocks, so a memorised opening stops working.
Use full screen on desktop — the portrait field is tall and narrow, and at default size the dinosaur faces are needlessly small.
