Jolly Jong One Mahjong

Jolly Jong One Mahjong is the first entry in the Jolly Jong series, and it shows in how plainly it is built: a hundred tile layouts, no clock, and nothing standing between you and the stack.

A tile lifts only when it has no neighbour to its left or right and nothing stacked on top. Read that rule carefully, because it means the tall middle of a layout stays unreachable until the flanks come down, and plenty of the hundred arrangements are built to punish players who forget it. The Celtic board uses the matching rule on a differently drawn set.

Without a timer the failure mode is different from timed boards. You do not run out of minutes, you run out of legal pairs. A hint will show you one if it exists, and the shuffle manufactures new options when it does not. The Titans board sits beside this one among the layered boards.

The HTML5 build handles a mouse or a tap, on desktop or on a phone. Full screen earns its place on the wider of the hundred layouts, where tiles at the far edges are otherwise easy to overlook. Only tiles with an open side move in Back To School Mahjong too.

Controls

Mouse, or tap on a touchscreen.

How to Play

  1. Pick two identical tiles that each have a free left or right side and nothing on top.
  2. Select them in turn to remove the pair.
  3. Work down through the stack until the layout is bare.
  4. Take a hint if you cannot see a pair, or a shuffle if none exists.

Tips & Tricks

  • Unpick the flanks — Jolly Jong One Mahjong locks its central spine until the outer columns are gone.
  • When a symbol shows more than twice — take the copies that unblock the most tiles beneath them, not the nearest two.
  • Shuffle before the board dies — a run only ends when no legal pair is left anywhere.
  • Treat the hundred layouts as separate puzzles — the shapes differ enough that a routine learned on one does not carry across.
  • Use full screen — wide arrangements push tiles to the edges where they are easy to miss.
