Jungle Mahjong

Lof Games sets its jungle board on a canvas 800 pixels wide by 450 tall, and that widescreen ratio shapes what you see: the layouts stretch sideways rather than piling up, so more tiles sit along the outer flanks where the left-or-right rule can reach them. How that works is written out in Types of Mahjong.

The rule itself is the strict one. A tile in Jungle Mahjong can only be taken when it is open from either its left or its right side, which means the interior of any rank is dead weight until one of its ends goes. Pairs are identical, and every tile has exactly one partner waiting somewhere, so a level ends only when all of them have found each other. Blue HD is filed under the same heading here.

Clearing a level moves you on; clearing all of them wins the game outright. That makes this a finite run rather than an endless one, and it rewards the habit of counting how many copies of a symbol are still standing before you spend one of them. A neighbour from the same shelf is connect tiles.

1. Scan the wide layout for two identical jungle tiles.
2. Check that each one is clear on its left or right edge — a tile boxed in on both sides cannot be lifted.
3. Click or tap the first, then its twin, to remove the pair.
4. Keep opening the ends of ranks until every tile has been matched and the level is complete.

• Open the row ends — nothing in the middle of a rank is available until a neighbour on one flank leaves.
• Count the copies — spending two of four identical tiles carelessly can strand the remaining pair behind a wall.
• Work the flanks — the 800 by 450 frame spreads tiles wide, so the far left and far right free up fastest.
• Widen the frame — at full screen the jungle artwork gets room, and near-identical leaves stop looking alike.
