Black and White Dimensions

Black and White Dimensions builds its board upwards rather than outwards: the tiles form a solid three-dimensional block that spins on command, and matches are made between the faces you can currently see. Half the puzzle is geometry — a symbol hidden on the far side is worthless until you turn the structure round to it. A longer explanation of the rule sits in the guide to rotating boards.

Pairs are read by symbol, not by shade. A white tile and a black tile carrying the same mark clear together, which is the detail newcomers miss most often while they hunt for two tiles of one colour. Forty levels follow, each adding tiles or tightening the arrangement, and a timer runs on the board — with the option to switch that timer off if you would sooner study the block than race it. Hints and a shuffle sit within reach of a locked structure, and the game was published in 2019 as an HTML5 build that answers a mouse, the keyboard or a finger. Full screen is the setting that matters here, because the rear faces of the structure are drawn small and a windowed view hides the marks you are trying to compare. 1. Turn the three-dimensional stack with the mouse, the keyboard or a swipe until you have seen every face.
2. Pick out two tiles carrying the same symbol — one may be black and the other white.
3. Select both to remove them, which exposes the tiles they were covering.
4. Empty the structure before the timer expires to reach the next of the forty levels.

• Rotate before you match — the partner for an obvious front tile is usually parked on a face you have not looked at.
• Ignore the colours — black and white are decoration here, and the symbol is what pairs.
• Take the outer shell down — every tile removed from Black and White Dimensions frees the ones beneath it.
• Hold the hints back — they cost score, and the later levels are where a genuinely blocked face appears.
• Switch the timer off while learning a level, then run the same structure against the clock once you know its sides.
