Mahjongg Garden

The garden set from GamePush swaps the usual suits for planted artwork: leaves, blossoms and oriental motifs, arranged in the layered pile the game asks you to take apart.

You connect identical chips in sequence so they leave the field, which is the ordinary pair-clearing rhythm in garden dress. A piece is available when nothing covers it and one of its sides is open, the rule every layered layout of this kind runs on. Nothing hurries the work either, since the board carries no countdown, so a jammed arrangement is a puzzle rather than a loss. Another build of that period still running here is the Elite board.

What keeps the set going past the first board is the unlocking. New tile designs and new backgrounds open up as you play, so the garden being cleared changes its appearance instead of simply resetting. The same heading covers Onet Mahjong as well.

The build is a current one, made to fill whatever screen it is given: it handles a phone as readily as a desktop monitor, and full screen is part of the game rather than something the browser has to force on it. Halloween Cakes Mahjong uses the matching rule on a differently drawn set.

1. Look across the garden layout and pick out faces that appear more than twice.
2. Choose a piece that is uncovered and open on one side.
3. Click its identical partner so the pair leaves the field.
4. Clear the layers in order, working from the top down, until the board is empty.
5. Play on to unlock further tile designs and backgrounds.

• Four of a face means freedom — take the pair that opens more board, not the first one you happen to spot.
• Nothing is counting — with no timer on the garden board, a long look before a move is free.

• Come back for the unlocks — a new tile design changes how readable the pile is as much as how it looks.
