Two clicked tiles are joined here by a line that may carry two corners at most, and that ceiling is what decides whether a distant pair is legal in Winter Mahjong. The Christmas shelf lists every board filed under this heading.

The complication arrives on the sliding levels. On those boards the surviving tiles do not stay where they were: they slide left, right, up or down after a clear, so the neat gap you opened closes behind you and a pair you had been saving may drift out of reach. 1. Click one winter tile, then its twin elsewhere on the grid.
2. Make sure the line between them turns no more than twice, or the pair will not go.
3. Note which way the board slides after a clear on the sliding levels, and plan the next pair from where the tiles land.
4. Empty each level before the clock runs down, working through all 32.

• Play the slide direction — when a Winter Mahjong level pulls tiles to the left, clear the left side first and let the rest come to you.
• Two corners is the ceiling — a route that needs a third bend is refused, however obvious the pair looks.
• Beat the clock by volume — with 32 levels timed, a fast run of simple pairs banks more progress than a perfect plan.
• Recheck after every clear — on the sliding boards the layout you memorised is out of date the moment a pair leaves.
