Christmas Mahjong

Christmas Mahjong is a connect-style board with a holiday coat of paint, and the detail that separates it from the rest of the seasonal shelf is the mode select. You choose between Arcade and Adventure before the tiles are dealt, and that choice decides the shape of the session rather than just its difficulty.

Underneath both modes the mechanic is the same: identical tiles are matched to clear them, and the board empties level by level. A time limit runs over play, which is why the standard advice for this one is to match quickly rather than optimally — every second you keep is a second available for the awkward pairs at the end of a board. Hints and shuffles are both provided and both are worth rationing. The hint is for a board you cannot read, the shuffle for a board that has locked, and using either as a routine turns a winnable level into a tight one. On the later levels, where the festive tiles crowd together, knowing which of the two you actually need is half the battle.

Full screen is a straightforward improvement, since the seasonal tile art carries small details that are hard to distinguish when the stage is small. The build runs on both desktop and mobile, so the same layout works with a mouse or with taps.

1. Launch the board and choose between Arcade and Adventure mode.
2. Match identical festive tiles in pairs to clear them from the layout.
3. Keep the pace up, because a time limit runs over each level.
4. Clear the board to progress through the levels.
5. Deploy hints and shuffles deliberately when a level tightens rather than as a habit.

• Match fast, bank time — seconds saved early are what get you through the crowded end of a level.
• Hint for confusion, shuffle for a lock — they solve different problems and mixing them up wastes one.
