Mahjong Cubes

Mahjong Cubes replaces flat tiles with a solid block of cubes, and that one change moves the whole problem from pattern recognition to spatial reasoning. Some faces you need are behind others, not merely under them.

Twenty-five levels follow, and the time allowed shrinks as you climb through them. Early boards give you room to work around the structure; later ones expect you to know where a face is before you start looking for it. The same rotation is at the centre of Mahjongg Dimensions 900 Seconds.

The hint is unusual and very specific: put the cursor on a cube and the display in the upper right corner tells you what it is. That turns hints into a probe for concealed faces rather than a solve button. The rules behind it are laid out in the guide to rotating boards.

This is a Flash-era build for a desktop browser. Full screen is close to mandatory, because the whole difficulty of Mahjong Cubes lies in seeing a face that is partly occluded, and a small frame hides exactly the pixels you need. Another cube of the same family is the Animals Cubes board.

1. Study the block and find two cubes showing the same face.
2. Click each cube in turn to remove the pair.
3. Hover a cube and read the upper-right display to identify one you cannot see clearly.
4. Clear the structure before the level timer runs out.
5. Expect less time on each successive level of the twenty-five.

• Probe with the cursor — the upper-right readout in Mahjong Cubes identifies a cube without spending a move.
• Take the outer shell down — cubes concealed behind the surface only become matchable once the front thins out.
• Budget for the later levels — the clock is tightest at the end of the twenty-five, not the start.
• Do not chase the obvious pair — removing two easy cubes from the front can seal in a face you had already identified.
• Play in full screen — occluded cubes are the whole puzzle, and a shrunken frame hides them further.
